Clear imaging of ion cloud rotation using a combination of a thin metal wire, a micro-channel plate attached to a phosphor screen, and a high-speed camera

To obtain the radial profile of ion velocity u i ( r) a pure cloud, for first time, we successfully captured images shadow thin rotating metal wire by scanning cloud using combination micro-channel plate attached to phosphor screen and high-speed camera. It appears that rotation angle measured agrees with estimated value based on theory two-dimensional equilibria non-neutral plasmas, rather than magnetron motion single confined in Penning trap. This method may be utilized as tool experimentally investigate r, t) electrically two-fluid which is an unexplored topic advanced plasma physics.
